Rugby is a game of sacrifice. We give the game our body and
soul and have a long and comfortable relationship with the physical pain
and
mental anguish it demands. Discomfort is a necessary part of breaking a line
or
holding your own in the name of everlasting glory. So why sacrifice
yourself
when you don’t need to? When there’s nothing between you and the try
line, it
just takes a quick placement of the ball to make the score official. Why
take the risk of hitting the ground hard enough to cause injury and
being taken out of the game? Because you want your teammate’s sacrifice
of
driving down the pitch to be rewarded. Because feeling that rare moment
of soaring
into victory is too sweet not to. Sometimes you have to
sacrifice your own well-being for the the most important part of rugby – the fans.
